Agra is a city which is situated in Uttar Pradesh on the banks of Yamuna River. One of the Seven Wonders Of The World ‘Taj Mahal‘ is situated in Agra which makes it a famous tourist destination. So many Mughal- era buildings like Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s Tomb and Taj Mahal are in Agra. Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and Taj Mahal are included in World Heritage Site(WHS) by UNESCO. Some of the famous points that can be explored in Agra are mentioned below.
The Taj Mahal
When we hear the name Agra, the first thing that comes to our mind is Taj Mahal. It is indeed amesmerizing tomb. Taj Mahal is a white marble tomb which is on the south bank of the Yamuna river. It was built in the memory of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of this tomb was completed in between 1632-1653. Taj Mahal attracts approximately 7 to 8 million people every year.
Another spot to visit in Agra is Agra Fort. It is a historical fort which used to be the residence of Mughal Emperors till 1638. After that mughal capital was shifted to Red Fort in Delhi. This fort is about 2.5 km away from Taj Mahal. It is also included in UNESCO World Heritage Site. One can learn about the history, art and craft of Mughals. It is another tourist attraction in Agra after Taj Mahal. Agra Fort has various beautiful palaces and two mosques.
Jama Masjid is situated opposite to the Agra Fort. It was built by mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1648 and was dedicated to his loving daughter Jahanara Begun. Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India and the most visited tourist destination in India. It was built in six years and it took 5000 workers to complete this mosque. The architecture of Jama Masjid is also very beautiful. Whoever goes to Agra must visit Jama Masjid.
Anguri Bagh is another spot that was built by Shah Jahan in 1637. As the name says, it was the garden of Grapes and Flowers. For royal ladies Anguri Bagh used to be the area of relaxation.

Furthermore, Agra is a place filled with so many historical gardens and forts. Apart from above mentioned places you can also visit Aram Bagh which is another garden built by Mughals. Another spot that can be visited is the tomb of Mariam- Uz- Zamani. It is the tomb of Mughal Emperor Akbar’s Hindu wife Heer kunwari. Her son Jahangir built this tomb and it is only 1 km away from the tomb of Akbar which was built as per the wish of his wife Heer Kunwari.
